Journalist Attacked in Gori

Correspondent for the Tbilisi-based Akhali Versia newspaper in the Shida Kartli region Saba Tsitsikashvili was attacked by unknown men and beaten up in the town of Gori on September 6.

The journalist ruled out that the incident was a robbery attempt, as his attackers took nothing, and alleged that the assault was retaliation for published articles that were critical of the local authorities in the Shida Kartli region.

Governor of Shida Kartli region Mikheil Kareli condemned the attack and demanded that law enforcers promptly investigate the case.
