Saakashvili: Parliamentary By-Elections a Test for Government

President Mikheil Saakashvili said on August 11 that the upcoming parliamentary by-elections in five of Georgia’s majoritarian [single-mandate] constituencies will be a test for his government.

?We consider the 1 October by-elections to be a very important test in the eyes of the world that will demonstrate whether or not President Saakashvili’s course has the support of the population,? Saakashvili said.

The President was speaking in Vazisubani, on the outskirts of Tbilisi, in support of the ruling National Movement party?s nomination Bidzina Bregadze, who will run for MP by-elections in Tbilisi?s Isani district.
