Sakrebulo to Elect Heads of Regional Districts

President Saakashvili said on July 17, while addressing the regional Governors at a session in Batumi, that elected City Councils (Sakrebulo) will elect district heads after the local self-governance system is reformed.

?The institute of [President?s regional] representatives [or governors] will be preserved,? Saakashvili said.

Currently, both the heads of districts (gamgebeli) and regional governors are appointed by the President.
