South Ossetia Rejects Aid, Citing ‘Saakashvili’s Involvement’

President of breakaway South Ossetia Eduard Kokoity said on July 14, that Tskhinvali “can not accept” humanitarian aid in the form of computer tomography, donated by prominent Georgian academician Pridon Todua, because this initiative turned into a political issue after Georgian President Saakashvili’s statement, the South Ossetian Press and Information Committee reported.

“We welcome all the initiatives [both government and private] associated with the resolution of the conflict… Moreover, we are ready to carry out other humanitarian programs,” President Saakashvili said on July 13.

Kokoity said that this humanitarian aid was a private initiative, which had nothing to do with politics.
