Officials from Georgia, Russia and breakaway Abkhazia met on July 11 in Tbilisi to discuss technical details surrounding the rehabilitation of a railway between Russia and Georgia via Abkhazia.

According to the Georgian Railway Department, the sides agreed that the next meeting over the possible resumption of the railway link would be held on July 19 in the Abkhaz capital Sokhumi and would include the participation of technical experts from all the three sides.

According to the preliminary calculations, more than USD 100 million is needed to rehabilitate a 60-kilometer long portion of railway between Georgia?s Zugdidi district and capital of the breakaway republic.
