Reports: Commerce Chamber Chief may Run for MP
Tbilisi-based Imedi television station reported on July 7 that the ruling National Movement party plans to nominate Jemal Inaishvili, the President of the Georgian Chamber of Commerce, as its candidate to run for MP in the single-mandate constituency in Batumi, Adjara Autonomous Republic.
?I can not yet confirm this, but if there is such a proposal I will be ready [to run for MP],? Inaishvili told Imedi television. Before becoming the President of Georgian Chamber of Commerce in 2004, Imnaishvili served as the chief of the Poti port.
By-elections in Georgia?s five single-mandate constituencies, including Batumi, are scheduled for this autumn. The person who will be elected in Adjara?s single-mandate constituency is slated to become the Vice-Speaker, and, according to the law, one of the deputy chairmen of the Parliament should be a representative of the Autonomous Republic.
