Opposition Rallies Against ‘Government’s Violence’

and Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili.

Several hundred people gathered on July 1 at a rally, organized by the opposition parties in one of the parks in downtown Tbilisi, to express protest against, as they put it, “violence of the government.”

The opposition leaders from the New Rights, Conservative, Republican and Labor parties, jointly demanded resignation of Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili for “excessive use of force” against the protesters on June 30.

The opposition leaders stated at the two-hour long rally that they will coordinate activities to prevent the government’s “undemocratic actions.”
