JCC to Discuss Crime Situation in S.Ossetia

Georgian State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues Giorgi Khaindrava said on June 20 that the criminal situation in the South Ossetian conflict zone will be the major issue discussed at a meeting of the quadripartite Joint Control Commission (JCC), scheduled in Moscow for June 21-22.

Khaindrava, who represents the Georgian side at the JCC, confirmed that Deputy Interior Ministers of Georgia, Russia, Russia?s North Ossetia and breakaway South Ossetia will attend the JCC meeting as well.

He also stated that talks between the Georgian and Russian Interior Ministers were initially planned; but he did not specify why the sides failed to arrange talks in this format.

The Georgian State Minister did not rule out that the representatives of the Interior Ministries will sign a joint document on cooperation in anti-crime measures.

Giorgi Khaindrava also demanded the Joint Peacekeeping Troops stationed in the conflict zone to perform their duties. ?If this does not occur, the peacekeeping troops will have to admit their weakness and declare that they fail to meet their commitments,? Khaindrava said at a news briefing on June 20.

The Georgian State Minister also added that Tbilisi will push the issue of completion of the demilitarization process in the region.
