MFA: Two Georgians Arrested in Spain
Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Kakha Sikharulidze said at a news briefing on June 20 that there are only two Georgian citizens among the persons arrested by the Spanish police in Barcelona on June 17.
The police arrested over 20 persons from the former Soviet states in an operation which was carried out in Barcelona, Alicante and Malaga as a part of fight against organized crime.
?This operation has not been carried out against the Georgians. Simply, Europe is seriously concerned by the problem of illegal migration. This is a common trend, which is directed towards settlement of illegal migration problem,? Kakha Sikharulidze said, stressing that the incident is not linked with the Georgian-Spanish relations.
News broke on June 17 that 41 Georgians were also arrested in Austria for alleged theft charges. According to the Austria?s Die Presse arrested Georgians are suspected of organized crime.
