Build the Peace Together – NGO initiative in Gali Region
On May 30, 2005 the Tbilisi Marriott hosted the presentation of the book titled “We build the peace together – Abkhaz and Georgian Women” as well as the closing meeting of the project “Women participation in Peace-Building; Facilitation of Constructive dialogue between Georgian and Abkhaz people in Gali Region”.
During a 12 month period of project implementation, activities took place in both Tbilisi and the Gali region. The project focused on women, aiming to motivate Georgian and Abkhaz populations living in the Gali region to find non-violent, peaceful methods of conflict resolution.
The project consisted of the following five activities:
• TOT
• To train journalists from the Gali region
• To train populations living in Gali and the Gali region
• To arrange the closing conference
• To prepare and issue the information brochure
This project was implemented by the Georgian NGO “Women for Future” together with the “Gali Women Association”. It received financial support from CoE Directorate General of Political Affairs within the framework of Confidence-Building measures programme
The Confidence-building Measures (CBM) Programme was created following the 1993 Vienna Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Member States of the Council of Europe.
The aim of the Confidence-building Measures Programme is to provide moral and financial support for civil society projects, of which the main objective is to promote relations between persons belonging to different ethnic groups within a specific country or between two or more neighboring countries.
