New Chief Peacekeeper Appointed in Abkhaz Conflict Zone

Maj.-Gen. Sergey Chaban was appointed new commander of the Russian peacekeeping forces deployed in the Abkhaz conflict zone, under the aegis of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
 
On April 18. Sergey Chaban met with Chief of the General Staff of the Georgian Armed Forces Levan Nikoleishvili and State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues Goga Khaindrava in Tbilisi.
 
Goga Khaindrava said after the talks that Chaban?s candidacy was acceptable for the Georgian side.
