Burjanadze Wants MFA to Explain Recalling of Ambassador

Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze said on April 18 that she requested that Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Foreign Affairs Kote Gabashvili summon Foreign Minister Salome Zourabichvili for an explanation regarding the decision to recall Georgia?s Ambassador to the Benelux countries (Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg) Konstantine Zaldastanishvili, an event which coincided with the visit of Nino Burjanadze to Brussels on April 9-13.

Last week, Nino Burjanadze slammed the Georgian Foreign Ministry for this decision, saying that ?it is unprecedented and just unethical to send a letter of recall [of an Ambassador] while this Ambassador is accompanying the visiting Parliamentary Chairperson at official talks.?

?Despite the fact that I notified the Foreign Ministry in advance not to recall the ambassador during my visit, it happened anyway? So I deem it appropriate to ask Salome Zourabichvili why this misunderstanding occurred,? Nino Burjanadze told reporters.
