
Bagapsh Denies U.S. Diplomats Offered to Visit Tbilisi
In a phone interview with Tbilisi-based Imedi television President of breakaway Abkhazia Sergey Bagapsh denied that he was invited the by U.S. diplomats who visted Sokhumi on April 11 to come to Tbilisi and hold talks with Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili during a visit U.S. President George W. Bush to Georgia, scheduled for May 10, adding that Russia remains a major mediator in the Abkhaz conflict resolution process.
Sergey Bagapsh, who is currently visiting Moscow, met with Steven Mann, the U.S. Department of State?s Senior Advisor for Eurasian Conflicts in Sokhumi on April 11. Georgian media speculated on April 12 that the U.S. diplomats offered the Abkhaz leader an invitation to meet Saakashvili in Tbilisi during the visit by the U.S. President.
?We are not even considering this issue yet. It was not even proposed. Nothing like that can happen. I do not think it is or will be possible? We already have Russia who already is occupied with our problems,? Sergey Bagapsh said.
