Russian Transport Minister Visits Georgia
Russian Transport Minister Igor Levitin will pay a visit to Georgia on January 9-10 to sign an agreement over a ferry service between the two countries.
The ferry service, between the Georgian port of Poti and Russian port of Kavkaz, will transport cargo trains.
A preliminary agreement was reached during a visit to Moscow by Davit Onoprishvili, chief of the Georgian state-run Railway Company, in December.
Georgia currently operates this kind of ferry service with Romania, Bulgaria and Ukraine.
The railway connection between Russia and Georgia was halted after the armed conflict in breakaway Abkhazia in 1992-1993.
