Public Council will be established in order to monitor the police

The Ministry of Interior will hold a presentation of Public Council for Monitoring Police on December 23, 2004.
Sozar Subaru, the Public Defender officially will hand over his representation authority to the persons who will be able to enter police pre-detention isolators and all the penitentiary facilities at any time in order to conduct monitoring.
The members of the Council will enjoy the mandate of Public Defender’s trust. Representatives of non-governmental are also part of this Council.
The list of the members has been sent to the Ministry of Interior in advance, in order to allow for checking if these persons have ever been tried and if they have any relatives among the employees of the penitentiaries.
Vano Merabishvili, Minister of Interior and Zurab Adeishvili, Prosecutor General will attend the official presentation.
