New Hydro Power Plant Opens in Georgia
The Khadori hydro power plant was put into operation on November 20 in the Pankisi gorge, in eastern Georgia.
The Chinese Sichuan Electric Power Import & Export Corporation invested about USD 30 million in the project.
Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, Energy Minister Nika Gilauri and other officials attended the opening ceremony.
The hydro power plant will generate 24 megawatts of electricity per hour.
?Georgia managed to construct a new plant with foreign assistance. The Kakheti region [in eastern Georgia] will no longer face any electricity problems,? President Saakashvili said at the opening ceremony on November 20.
