Tskhinvali Accuses Tbilisi of Shelling

The South Ossetian side accused Georgian forces of opening fire on the Ossetian village of Kverneti overnight on November 11. The Press and Information Committee of the breakaway region reported that the Georgian side used grenade-launchers and firearms during the shelling.

The committee also reported that the shelling by Georgian forces provoked the South Ossetian side to respond by opening fire.

Earlier today the Georgian side accused Tskhinvali of opening fire against the Georgian villages of Tamarasheni and Kurta.

Meanwhile, de facto President of South Ossetia Eduard Kokoev held talks with MPs and cabinet members of the self-styled republic on November 11. The November 5 Sochi agreement on the demilitarization of the conflict zone signed by Kokoev and Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania was discussed.

Kokoev described the talks as important and necessary, since ?the Ossetian side supports a peaceful settlement of the conflict.?

?We have demonstrated that the Ossetian side is ready for dialogue. The most important thing for us is to prevent hostilities,? Kokoev added.
