Security Chief: Abashidze’s Regime in ‘Panic’

Secretary of the National Security Council Vano Merabishvili said that Adjarian leader Alan Abashidze’s regime “is in panic” in the wake of mass protest rallies in Batumi, which sparked late on May 4.

“We are witnessing countdown to Abashidze’s regime. Now our main goal is to avoid bloodshed,” Vano Merabishvili told Rustavi 2 television on May 5.

Secretary of the National Security Council also said that most of the Adjarian policemen “already defy Abashidze and pledge loyalty to the Georgian President.”

He also said that more people from the Adjarian villages are jointing protest rally in Batumi.
