Adjarian Opposition Met President Saakashvili

Leaders of the Our Adjara movement, which is a major opposition of the Adjarian leader Aslan Abashidze, held talks with President Saakashvili on April 15.

“We discussed our plan of action in Adjara with Mikheil Saakashvili. We urged him to secure rule of law in the Autonomous Republic and informed him that we are collecting signatures of Adjarian population with the demand of snap elections [of local legislative body] in Adjara,” Edward Surmanidze, one of the leaders of Our Adjara movement told reporters after the meeting.

He also said that the President expressed full support towards the opposition movement’s activity in Adjara.
