Three Parties Out of Election Race

Three political parties the United Communist Party, the Party for Protection of Constitutional Rights and the Justice party refused to participate in the March 28 parliamentary elections by citing anticipated ballot fraud.

Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Zurab Tchiaberashvili said, the ballot papers have already been printed and therefore these parties, who withdrew their applications from CEC will still be put in the ballot papers.

The United Communist Party is led by Panteleimon Giorgadze, father of Georgia’s ex-security chief Igor Giorgadze, who is wanted by Georgia. The Justice party is led by Igor Giorgadze himself.

Leaders of the Party for Protection of Constitutional Rights are Zviad Mukbaniani and Irakli Gogava, which were allies of ex-President Shevardnadze.

As a result only 11 parties and 5 election blocs will stand for Sunday’s parliamentary polls, which will be a partial rerun of fraudulent November 2 parliamentary elections.
