Burjanadze Feels at a Loss in the Party Election List

Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze said she is not satisfied with drafting of the party-list of MP candidates, which will run for proportional parliamentary elections on March 28.

Representatives of Mikheil Saakashvili’s party National Movement, Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania’s United Democrats and Nino Burjanadze are holding consultations over the party-lists for third day. Deadline of submitting party-lists to the Central Election Commission expires later today.

“I am far from political intrigues that are taking place [during drafting the party-list]. Of course, I was interested in having more supporters in the party-list to run for Parliament. I have no claims regarding my allies or any person from my team, but I think that it would be better if professionals come to the new Parliament,” Nino Burjanadze told reporters on February 26.

Nino Burjanadze also said that Zurab Zhvania refused to take into consideration her proposals.

Mikheil Saakashvili and Zurab Zhvania decided to merge their parties and run for the elections jointly.

Nino Burjanadze was elected as MP in Kutaisi single-mandate constituency in November 2 elections. As the court annulled only the results of proportional elections, Nino Burjanadze and other MPs elected in single-mandate constituencies, would retain mandates.

President Saakashvili, Primer Zhvania and Parliamentary Chairperson Burjanadze try to enlist more their supporters in the party-lists.

According to the preliminary information 60% of the party-list will be composed by the supporters of President Saakashvili. Nino Burjanadze and Zurab Zhvania have to distribute remaining 40%.
