Election Observers Urge to Investigate Vote Irregularities

The non-governmental organization of Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association (GYLA), which monitors elections in Georgia, demanded from the authorities to investigate the mass ballot fraud, which took place during the November 2 parliamentary elections last year.

“Investigation of violations and punishment of the guilty should become a precondition for free and fair parliamentary elections [scheduled for March 289],” Tina Khidasheli of the GYLA said at a news briefing on February 23.

The GYLA presented today a final report of the January 4 snap presidential polls, which claims that that the presidential elections, were much batter organized, then the November 2 parliamentary polls.

The fraudulent November 2 parliamentary elections sparked mass street protests, which led to resignation of ex-President Eduard Shevardnadze, and cancellation of the results of the proportional component of the November 2 elections.
