Saakashvili, Powell Pledged Further Cooperation

U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell reiterated today the U.S. support to Georgia and expressed readiness for further cooperation with the country’s new authorities.

“I find very important to represent the President and the people of the United States at the inauguration of the new President of Georgia. This is a historical day and I stand here to express our support towards Georgia. We will help the new government in the struggle against corruption,” Colin Powel said at a joint news briefing with President-elect Mikheil Saakashvili after the talks on January 25.

He said the United States is ready to allocate USD 166 millions this fiscal year.

“This country should become a good example of international cooperation and implementation of reforms,” Powell said, adding that U.S. President Bush is ready to meet with the new President of Georgia and invited him to the United States on February 25.
