Saakashvili Attended Military Parade in Adjara

Mikheil Saakashvili, who will be officially sworn in as a new President today, arrived this morning in Batumi to attend the military parade in the capital of Adjara Autonomous Republic.

Saakashvili held short meeting with the leader of the Adjarian leader Aslan Abashidze. Details of talks remain confidential.

“We will have a normal relations, as it should be,” Saakashvili made a brief comment after the attending the military parade, referring to the relations with Aslan Abashidze, who was standing beside the President-elect.

Reports say after Saakashvili left Batumi, opposition of the Adjarian leader launched a protest rally in the streets of Batumi, chanting “Misha, Misha,” – a nickname of Mikheil Saakashvili. Reports say that there was couple of cases of clashes between the police and the protesters. The supporters of Aslan Abashidze also hold a rally in Batumi.

After visiting Batumi, Mikheil Saakashvili arrived in Poti, town at the Black Sea coast, where he will also attend the military parade.
