Football Federation President will be Released
Interior Minister Giorgi Baramidze said that President of the Georgian Football Federation Merab Zhordania was released after he paid 742 thousand Lari (up to USD 340,000) to the state budget.
Merab Zhordania was arrested on December 12 and charged with misappropriation of 750,000 Lari. The court sentenced him to three-month pre-trial detention.
“This is the first precedent, when such a large sum was returned to the budget. This means that legality will be restored in the country,” Interior Minister Giorgi Baramidze said at a news briefing on January 15.
He added that criminal proceedings against Merab Zhordania will be suspended. It is expected that Zhordania will be released this evening.
