Javier Solana Pledged EU Support to Georgia
Javier Solana, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), hailed the January 4 snap presidential elections in Georgia.
“Yesterday’s [January 4] Presidential elections marked an important step in the democratic progress of Georgia. The International Election Observation Mission stated that notable progress was demonstrated in relation to previous elections. The high turnout was an important indicator of the wish of the Georgian people for a fresh beginning,” the EU High Representative said on January 5.
Javier Solana congratulated Mikheil Saakashvili on the preliminary election results and assured him of the continued support of the European Union to Georgia in achieving the goals of stability, democracy and prosperity.
