Government Reforms State-owned Enterprises

A new 12-member supervisory board, consisting of legal experts, media and civil society representatives, will start to work at the state-owned Georgian Railway company.

State Minister Zurab Zhvania introduced on December 15 the new supervisory board to the society. He said, the World Bank and TRACECA (transport corridor Europe–Caucasus–Asia) will also have their own representatives in the board.

Chief of the Georgian Railway Akaki Chkhaidze, one of the closest allies of ex-President Eduard Shevardnadze, resigned after the “velvet revolution” in Georgia. The company is one of the most profitable enterprises owned by the state.

Zurab Zhvania said that the government would start reformation of the management of all state-owned enterprises.
