Saakashvili Condemns Boycotting of Elections

Presidential candidate Mikheil Saakashvili condemned the statements made by leader of Adjara Autonomous Republic Aslan Abashidze, who threatened with boycotting the elections.


“As far as I know they intend to boycott the elections. Those, who go against Georgia, will lose the game,” Saakashvili told reporters on December 6.


Recently Adjarian leader Aslan Abashidze demanded the central authorities of Georgia to hold the presidential and parliamentary elections in June, 2004.


Otherwise, he threatened with boycotting the elections. Abashidze added that Georgia is not ready for holding the presidential elections on January 4.


Irina Sarishvili-Chanturia, former spokesperson of the Shevardnadze’s collapsed party, Shalva Natelashvili, leader of the Labor party and Akaki Asatiani, leader of the Traditionalists party are holding talks with the Adjarian leader in Batumi. However, the details of the talks are unknown so far.
