Saakashvili Runs for Presidency

Nino Burjanadze, Zurab Zhvania and Mikheil Saakashvili, at a joint news conference today announced that the opposition, which led the bloodless revolution, proposes Mikheil Saakashvili’s candidacy for the presidential elections, scheduled for January 4, 2004.

The decision was widely anticipated, as Mikheil Saakashvili was a key figure in the velvet revolution that forced Eduard Shevardnadze to resign.
