Court Cancelled Election Results

The Supreme Court of Georgia today cancelled the final protocol of the November 2 parliamentary election vote tally issued by the Central Election Commission (CEC).

Election observer NGO International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy (ISFED) filed a lawsuit on cancellation of the election results.

The court’s ruling concerns only the results of elections under the proportional system. While the election results of the single-mandate constituencies remain unclear.

The trial started on November 24, during which the CEC members recognized violations during the elections.

ISFED also intends to sue those members of the CEC, who ignored these violations.

“Those guilty of violations should become answerable,” executive director of ISFED Zurab Chiaberashvili said after the trial.

The Supreme Court’s decision is final and unappealable.
