Russia, Georgia Pledge Economic Cooperation

The participants of the Georgian-Russian economic forum, which is taking place in Tbilisi, supported further development of economic ties  and abolition of visa regime between Russia and Georgia.

“The visa regime existing between Georgia and Russia creates a great deal of obstacles for further development and deepening of trade-economic cooperation between the two countries,” Arkadi Volski of the Russia’s Union of Entrepreneurs said at the forum on October 16.

Speaking at the forum Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze said, settlement of economic ties between Russia and Georgia would play an important role in normalization of the relationship between the two countries.

The Russian businessmen are discussing four investment projects to be implemented in gas and processing industry, as well as in a sphere of energy.

“The investment climate in Georgia is not too attractive for Russia, but there are a number of facilities, which cause Russia’s interest,” Arkadi Volski told reporters after the forum.
