Shevardnadze Slams Burjanadze

President Shevardnadze dismissed accusations made by Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze, who said that Shevardnadze is behind the smear campaign against her.

Spokesperson of the presidential-backed election bloc For New Georgia Irina Sarishvili-Chanturia accused Burjanadze of collaboration with the Russian secret services on October 8. Burjanadze, who denied the accusation, said that President Shevardnadze is masterminding black-PR campaign against her.

?It is impossible that the second person [according to the Constitution Parliamentary Chairperson is the second most powerful official after the President] in the country, as she herself says, blames the President and makes statements against the President. If she is the second person, she should act otherwise,? Shevardnadze said in his radio broadcast on October 13. 

Sarishvili-Chanturia delivered what she said was documentary proof of her allegations to the Ministry of State Security on 9 October.

Burjanadze demanded Security Minister Valeri Khaburdzania to investigate the Sarishvili-Chanturia?s documentary proof within three days, which expires today.
