Shevardnadze Denies Foreign Policy Shift

(Tbilisi, August 11, 2003, Civil Georgia) – President Shevardnadze is concerned over the opposition statements’regarding a possibility of a shift in Georgia’s foreign policy as a result of the entry of the Russian ebergy companies GazProm and the Unified Energy System to the Georgian market.

“This is a deliberate demagogy. They [the opposition] seem to know nothing about [country’s] foreign political orientation. How can they say that the foreign policy has changed, if we give electricity and gas to the population?&!
#8221; Georgian President said in his radio broadcast on August 11, adding that the country will continue to cooperate with both the United States and Russia.
