GUUAM, US Pledge for Cooperation

(Tbilisi, July 5, 2003, Civil Georgia) – The GUUAM member states (Georgia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Moldova) signed 7 joint documents on cooperation at the Summit in Yalta, Ukraine on July 4.
 
The representatives of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova signed the agreement on creation of the virtual law enforcement center, considering the exchange of information over combating terrorism, organized crime and drug-trafficking.

Moreover, the participants of the Summit signed the memorandum on mutual understanding in a sphere of trade and transportation, the inter-governmental agreements on prevention of the emergency situations and liquidation of its consequences, on cooperation in customs affairs and education sphere. The member states also adopted a protocol on cooperation of the state border guards.

The GUUAM delegations were represented by Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze, Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma, Advisor of the Uzbekistan President Abdulasis Kamilov, Azeri Prime Minister Arthur Rasizade and First Deputy Foreign Minister of Moldova Andrei Stratan.

The 19 countries, including the United States sent delegations to observe the GUUAM summit in Yalta.

Georgian President Shevardnadze said that the US will allocated USD 1 million to support the GUUAM projects – most importantly, for projects that concern the creation of the Europe-Caucasus-Asia transportation corridor.
