Burjanadze Believes that Russia is Interfering in Georgia’s Internal Matters

(Tbilisi, May 23, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Chairperson of the Parliament Nino Burjanadze met with the Russian politicians and scholars, who have participated in the conference “Georgian-Russian Relations and European Security”, held in Krtsanisi State Residence, Tbilisi.

During the meeting Burjanadze talked about the bilateral relations and problems of Abkhazian conflict resolution. The Russian guests said that the conflict is a problem of the Georgian and Abkhazian sides and Russia has not participated in it in any way.

Burjanadze responded that during and after the armed conflict Russia did and continues to rudely interfere into Georgia’s internal affairs.

“Simply, Russia still has not got used to equal relations with Georgia and keeps intruding in to the interests of the small state. I would like to remind everyone that Abkhazia is a part of Georgia and I am confident that we would have settled the conflict if others did not interfere” – Burjanadze said.

She added that despite such attitude of the Russian side, Georgia is interested in cooperation with Russia.
