Authorities, Citizens Paid Tribute to April 9 Tragedy

(Tbilisi. April 9, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Up to hundred of Tbilisi residents gathered today in front of the Parliament building today to pay tribute to the victims of tragedy of April 9, 1989.

14 years ago on April 9 the Soviet Special Forces dissolved protesters at Rustaveli avenue of Tbilisi, killing 21 people. Protesters demanded Georgia’s independence from the Soviet Union.

Georgian President, Parliamentary Chairperson and other Georgian officials, together with the political parties also participated in the tribute ceremony.
