Georgia Says Anti-Georgian Stance Increases in Russia

(Tbilisi. April 4, 2003. Civil Georgia) – “It seems that the new wave of the anti-Georgian hysteria starts in Russia,” Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister said at the briefing today.

He commented on the draft of the decree submitted by the group of the Russian MPs to the Duma Council, which is the Russian Parliament’s lower chamber, criticizing US-Georgian military agreement.

According to the agreement the US government is allowed to use mutually agreed military facilities in Georgia.

The draft of the decree calls the Russian government to revise Moscow’s policy towards the Georgia’s breakaway regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, which seek for “associated membership” in Russia.

“In case the draft of decree is adopted we will send a statement of protest to Moscow,” Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister said.
