Georgian, Russian Experts Discussed Issue of Military Bases
(Tbilisi. March 5, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Russian and Georgian experts held consultations today in Georgian Foreign Ministry on withdrawal of the Russian military bases, deployed in Georgia.
Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Kakha Sikharulidze told the reporters that there are some signs of progress in the negotiations, but the experts are not authorized to take decisions.
Georgian side demands the Russian military bases in Batumi and Akhalkalaki to be disbanded in 3 years, while the Russian side insists on 11 years.
The ninth round of negotiations on military issue between the Russian and Georgian delegations will be held in Tbilisi in April.
