Shevardnadze, Putin Reach Agreements on Abkhazia

(Kiev, January 28, Civil Georgia) According to the preliminary information Presidents Eduard Shevardnadze and Vladimir Putin have reached certain agreements on Abkhazia during their personal informal meeting in Kiev, Ukraine.

After a meeting that lasted two hours beyond the schedule, President Putin stated that he would order to suspend railway link between Russian city of Sochi and Sokhumi in Abkhazia, until the issue of return of the displaced persons is solved. Eduard Shevardnadze stated that certain other “interesting mechanisms” of interaction between Georgia and Russia regarding Abkhazia were elaborated.

More details are expected tonight, after the meeting of the Caucasian Four – leaders of Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia.
