Georgian Minister Fails to Convince Moscow on Closure of Railway with Abkhazia

(Tbilisi, January 18, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Georgian Minister of Transport and Communication Merab Adeishvili, which visited Moscow on January 14-17, said upon his arrival from Russian Foreign Ministry stands behind the reopening of the railway connection between Russia and breakaway Abkhazia, while Russian authorities claim private firm reopened the railway.

“I propose to cut off communication to the Russian military bases deployed in Georgia,” Adeishvili said at the briefing on January 17.

On January 18 meeting of the Georgian National Security Council is scheduled. It is anticipated that the issue of cutting off communication to the Russian military bases will be discussed at the meeting.
