MPs Concerned Over Kidnapped Georgian Sailors in Somalia
(Tbilisi, January 17, 2003. Civil Georgia) – MP Elene Tevdoradze called the government today to act more actively over release of Georgian sailors kidnapped in Somalia.
On June 30, 2002 Greek ship with Georgian crew on board was seized in territorial waters of Somalia. Attackers kidnapped Georgian sailors demanding ransom.
Georgian President Shevardnadze said on January 13 “the Georgian government is actively working on sailors’ release from the first day of incident through the diplomatic channels.”
President thanked the Greek government for the assistance. “Greeks have already paid the ransom but it seems is was not enough for sailors’ release.”
