President Meets Russian Ambassador

(Tbilisi, January 10, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Georgian President Shevardnadze meets Russian ambassador in Georgia Vladimir Chkhikvishvili today.

It is anticipated that that the Georgian President will voice his protest concerning the Russia’s unilateral decision to reopen the railway connection between Russia and Georgia’s breakaway region of Abkhazia.

IDPs from Abkhazia hold the protest rally at the administrative border between Abkhazia and the rest of Georgia demanding closure of the railway link, which was reopened on December 25.
