Russian Peacekeepers Shot Two Abkhaz Civilians
(Tbilisi, January 3, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Russian peacekeepers deployed in the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict zone shot killed two civilians late on January 2, Russian media sources report quoting the CIS peacekeeping forces press office.
The press office reported today that two Abkhazians were shot after they attacked the peacekeepers near Gudauta, breakaway Abkhazia.
Russian peacekeepers claim that they opened the fire only after the warning for self-defense.
