Border Guard Shot the Officer

(Tbilisi, September 9, 2002 Civil Georgia) – Serviceman of the Georgian Border Guard Department killed the officer with gunshot in the morning of September 8 and run away with three automatic guns.

Shalva Londaridze, spokesman of the Border Guard Department told the Civil Georgia on September 9, that the incident occurred at the Sabue border checkpoint, near Daghestani border. The reasons of the incident are not reported.

Londaridze said that one more border guard goes missing. “We suppose that missing border guard is also linked to the murder case,” Border Guard Department’s spokesman stated.

This is the second case of murder in Georgian army in past two days. On September 7 serviceman of the Georgian army killed another serviceman with knife. The murderer suspect is arrested.

The incident occurred during the large scale military exercises Kakheti – 2002 which is conducted at the moment by the Georgian Defense Ministry in eastern Georgia near Pankisi gorge.
