Another Group of Chechen Fighters Detained in Georgia

(Tbilisi, Civil Georgia, August 5, 2002) – Group of Chechen fighters surrendered Georgian border guard on August 5. They entered the Georgia territory from rebel Chechen Republic.

Georgian Border Guard Commander Valeri Chkheidze said at the news briefing today that Russian Federal Troops forced Chechen fighters to infiltrate Georgia, as they blocked all the ways except one – to Georgia.

This is the second group of armed Chechens detained by the Georgian border guards since August 3. Russian side demands extradition of detained Chechens.
