Shevardnadze Says Georgia Controls Pankisi
(Tbilisi, March 19, Civil Georgia) – President Shevardnadze stated at the Euro Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs, Human Rights, Common Security and Defense Policy on March 18, that Georgia absolutely controls situation in Pankisi gorge.
Eduard Shevardnadze made a speech at the Committee meeting. He commented situation in Georgia and the Russian-Georgian relations.
“Pankisi problem is the result of war in Chechnya. Some Russian politicians are disappointed with the Georgia’s refusal on a joint Georgian-Russian military operation in Pankisi gorge,” President Shevardnadze stated.
