(Tbilisi, January 16, Civil Georgia) – The Parliamentary special session will discuss draft of the 2002 budget on January 16. Consultation commission, consisting of representatives of government and legislators, could not reach consensus on the draft.
MPs demand to increase expenditures in the budget at least by 100 million Lari (approximately $48 million).
Presidential aide for fiscal issues Giorgi Isakadze stated on January 15, that the International Monetary Fund is not for expenditures increase because there is no guarantee that the government will be able to collect enough revenues to cover expenditures and budget sequester will be needed by the end of the year.
