US will not Push Russia for Withdrawal Military Bases from Georgia

Russia is breaking the treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE) but NATO and European Union officials are reluctant to raise the issue with President Vladimir Putin when he arrives in Brussels today, Financial Times reports, quoting several European diplomats.

“USA needs to maintain Russian support against the terrorism. So trying to push Russian compliance is not a priority for the Americans”, the diplomats announced.

Moscow is now violating the CFE2 treaty. Under its terms, Russia undertook to withdraw its remaining forces from Georgia and Moldova. By July 1, the deadline set for disbanding its military base of Gudauta, in Georgia’s breakaway region of Abkhazia, Moscow was still entrenched.
