U.S. ‘Encourages Constructive Dialogue’ over S.Ossetia

U.S. Department of State spokesman Sean McCormack said on May 10 that the United States encourages constructive dialogue between the Georgian authorities and South Ossetians.

The U.S. official made these remarks after he was asked to comment on the appointment of Tbilisi-loyal South Ossetian alternative leader Dimitri Sanakoev as head of the provisional administrative entity of South Ossetia by President Saakashvili on May 10.

?I don?t have any particular comment on the appointment. But we do have a long track record of encouraging constructive dialogue between South Ossetia and the South Ossetians and the Georgian Government. It?s in the interest of everybody to work out any political differences, via political means. And we are very firm in the idea that the territorial integrity of Georgia is not something that should be in question,? McCormack said at a news briefing in Washington.
