Georgian Leaders Condemn Ataturk Airport Attack

Georgian leadership has condemned a gun and bomb attack on Istanbul’s Ataturk international airport which has killed 36 people and injured more than 140 others.

“It is with great regret that I learned of the explosions at Istanbul Ataturk Airport that has claimed lives and wounded many. I am appalled at this insidious act aimed against innocent people. The world must come together to put an end to this brutality,” PM Giorgi Kvirikashvili said in a statement. “During this time of grief, our thoughts and prayers are with the Turkish people and the Government of Turkey.”

President Giorgi Margvelashvili said in a statement: “I am appalled by terrorist act at the Istanbul Ataturk Airport. During this time of grief, our thoughts are with families of the victims; we express our firm support to the Turkish government and people in fight against terrorism.”

Flights to and from Istanbul are among the busiest at the Tbilisi International Airport; several of those overnight flights were canceled after the attack at the Ataturk Airport late on Tuesday evening.
